In 2020, house sales in Turkey increased by 11.2% compared to the previous year, reaching almost 1,5M purchases. However, the pandemic hit the foreigners’ interest in Turkish real estate, cutting off 10% of what they bought in 2019.
Unlike many Asian countries, Turkey allows foreigners to acquire land, apartments, and other types of real estate on a freehold basis. The government is actively encouraging foreigners to invest in Turkey through their citizenship by investment program.
According to Turkish law, foreign nationals are free to buy property in Turkey except for military zones/ special security zones. However not all the areas are suitable for property residency.
